College days are one of the best times in life as it gives a whole new perspective on the life. For most of the youngsters, they want a sports bike for college as they want to impress girls and other students. Until a few years ago, the options for students were limited to either Pulsar or Apache.

But things have changed drastically in the last couple of years and now there are lots of sports bikes for every price point from global to Indian manufacturers. In this article, we have listed to top five sports bikes for college going students under Rs. 1.5 lakh.

1. KTM Duke 200

You might be wondering why we listed KTM Duke 200 on top because it is the most expensive bike in this list at Rs. 1.50 lakh (Ex-Showroom). The Duke 200 is the entry model of KTM in India and even though the bike didn’t get any major updates in recent years, it is still one of the best performance bikes in the country.

KTM offers lots of premium features like an upside down forks, mono suspension, fully digital instrument cluster, trellis frame (Which has become common now) and more. The Duke 200 is powered by 199 cc fuel injected single cylinder engine producing 24.6 bhp and 19.2 Nm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and comes with disc brakes at both ends. The only thing missing on Duke 200 is ABS, which will be introduced in future.

2. Yamaha FZ 25

The original FZ is the bike which helped Yamaha to make a come back in the Indian segment and fans have been waiting for a long time for a bigger FZ. Finally, the company introduced FZ25, which gets similar styling like its elder brother but the muscular fuel tank along with full LED headlamps does make the bike stand out.

The Japanese manufacturer focused on practicality with FZ25 rather than outright performance. The FZ25 is powered by 249 cc single cylinder engine with fuel injection producing 20.3 bhp and 20 Nm. This engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox and braking power comes from 282 mm disc at front and 220 mm disc at the rear. But the FZ25 also misses out on ABS and it is priced at Rs. 1.19 lakh (Ex-Showroom).

3. Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS

The Pulsar 200 NS is based on Duke 200 and this DNA has helped Bajaj to create a more affordable alternative to the premium model. The 200 NS is also the first naked bike from the company and the design theme hasn’t been changed from the inception as the model has lots of fan following across the country.

The 199.5 cc single cylinder engine misses out FI and it produces 23.2 bhp and 18.3 Nm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and the company has given disc brakes at both ends. The bike also comes with single channel ABS system and the bike is known for its excellent handling. The Pulsar 200 NS price starts at Rs. 1 lakh (Ex-Showroom).

4. TVS Apache RTR 200 4V

The Apache RTR 200 4V gets a completely new design theme, which is different from other Apache models till then. The naked styling with sharp headlamps and muscular fuel tank gives a muscular look along with split seats and LED tail lamps makes the bike stand out. The Apache is the only bike in this segment to come with stickier Pirelli tyres as an option.

The newly developed 197.75 cc engine produces 20.7 bhp and 18.1 Nm. This engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox and the company is offering both FI and Carb version with excellent low and mid range performance. The Apache RTR 200 4V is the only model in this list to come with dual channel ABS system and the price starts at Rs. 95,255 (Ex-Showroom).

5. Suzuki Gixxer SF

The Gixxer SF is based on the popular Gixxer naked bike and comes with a full fairing, which took inspirations from bigger GSX models. The fairing is the main highlight of the SF as all other mechanical parts are carried over from the naked sibling. Recently the company started offering both FI and single-channel ABS with SF.

The 155 cc single cylinder engine producing 14.6 bhp of power and 14 Nm of torque is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The braking power comes from 266 mm disc brake at front and 220 mm disc at the rear. Suzuki has given telescopic front forks and mono suspension at the rear, which is tuned to give good handling along with decent ride quality. The Gixxer SF is priced at Rs. 90,451 (Ex-Showroom).
