India is one of the fastest growing markets in the world and usually we get models soon after their global reveal while some manufacturers introduce their models first in the Indian market. In the last five months, so many new models have been launched in the market and it includes small hatchbacks to big SUVs. We pick the top 5 models among them.
1. Mahindra XUV 300
Price: Rs. 7.9 Lakh to Rs. 11.99 Lakh
Like some other models in this list, the hype around XUV 300 was so high as the company reveal the model initially in December and the launch took place in February. The XUV 300 is based on the same platform as SsangYong Tivoli and both models share lots of components to keep cost low but the exterior design theme of XUV 300 is different and in line with other models from the company.
The front grille is similar to the one in Alturas G4 while the design of the headlamps is new and the integrated LED DRLs extend towards the bumper. The side design is simple as the company has given diamond cut alloy wheels while the rear gets new tail lamps. The interior design is shared with Tivoli and the quality of materials is good.
The company has packed the XUV 300 with lots of features like a sunroof, four disc brakes, three modes for the steering wheel, heated exterior mirrors, 7-airbags, ABS with EBD, airbag off switch, all-passenger seat belt alert and more. The XUV 300 is powered by 1.5 L diesel and petrol engines with a manual gearbox.
2. Honda Civic
Price: Rs. 17.7 Lakh to Rs. 23.3 Lakh
Honda unveiled the new generation Civic in India for the first time at the 2018 Auto Expo and the company launched the model in February. The new Civic follows the design theme of its sibling like the Accord as the front get new chrome finished grille with big LED headlamps along with a new bumper with integrated fog lamps.
The company has given a coupe-like design theme for the Civic while the rear gets new LED tail lamps along with a new bumper. The interior design of Civic is in line with other models from Honda as the centre console gets a big touch screen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The instrument cluster is also digital.
The Civic comes loaded with lots of features like leather seats, sunroof, dual-zone climate control, high-end audio system with 8-speakers with 4 tweeters, electric parking brake, auto hold function, 6 airbags and more. Honda is offering Civic with 1.8 L i-VTEC and 1.6 L i-DTEC units, while the former gets the auto gearbox and manual with latter.
3. Tata Harrier
Price: Rs. 12.7 Lakh to Rs. 16.37 Lakh
Among these top 5 models, the most awaited models were Harrier as the expectation from customers was so high as it is the production version of the H5X concept showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. The company has followed the same design of the concept to the production version as it is the first model with the Impact Design 2.0 theme.
The front gets dual headlamps set up in which LED DRL is placed on top and projector headlamps are positioned below it. The Harrier gets 17-inch alloy wheels while the third-row glass gets a unique design. The rear comes with LED tail lamps along with a new bumper. The interior design is also modern and quality of materials is really good.
The company has packed the SUV with lots of features like touch screen infotainment system, big multi-information display on the instrument cluster, climate control, leather seats, JBL audio system, reverse camera, rain sensing wipers and more. The Harrier is powered by 2.0 L engine with 140 PS of power and mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
4. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R
Price: Rs. 4.3 Lakh to 5.8 Lakh
Maruti Suzuki launched the third generation Wagon R in January and the new model is based on the fifth generation Heartect platform as it is the entry-level model of this new platform. The design theme of new generation Wagon R is evolutionary as the front gets big headlamps with a new grille and an updated bumper.
The tall boy stance has been retained in the new model and the company has given 15-inch wheels for the new model while the rear gets vertically placed tail lamp along with a new bumper. The interior design of the new Wagon R is completely new as the centre console is dominated by a new touch screen infotainment system.
The instrument cluster is also new while the space inside the cabin has improved along with boot space. The company has given split rear seats and the hatchback is loaded with lots of features also. The Wagon R is powered by 1.0 L K-Series and 1.2 L K-Series petrol engines with the option of 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox.
5. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
Price: Rs. 7.4 Lakh to Rs. 10.9 Lakh
Maruti Suzuki launched the second-generation Ertiga in November and the MPV gets an all-new design theme as they want to make it premium. The front gets new projector headlamps along with a new grille and an updated bumper. The side continues the same MPV design theme and the company has given black-finished alloy wheels.
The rear gets new vertically placed tail lamps along with a chrome bar in between them. The overall dimensions of the Ertiga have been increased. The MPV also comes with a new bumper. The interior design is also completely new as the beige colour theme has been retained in the new model and the instrument cluster is also new.
The MPV is loaded with lots of features like touch screen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, climate control, keyless entry, push button start, reverse camera, roof mounted AC vents and more. The Ertiga is powered by a new 1.5 L petrol engine and the 1.3 L diesel engine will be soon replaced by new in-house developed 1.5 L engine.
