top 5 losers in monthly sales

Top 5 Losers of January 2016:

If there are gainers, there are losers as well in January 2016 Car sales. Manufaturer’s retailed less units of car compared to the same month last year as next-gen versions, Delhi above 2000cc Diesel ban and competition from rival played a major role in January.

The following cars in some case surprise and some case obvious have made it to the list. There are SUVs, premium sedans and MPVs too.

1. Skoda Superb

99% down to 2 units in the month of January from 147 units in the same month last year. Skoda is getting ready for the new Superb launch that is set to happen in February 2016. Superb is the one of few products that brings volumes to the company which is surprisingly in the premium segment. Skoda has been the leader here but the Japanese are set to bounce back with their petrol hybrid engines. Hope the Skoda Superb gets where it deserves to be.

2. Skoda Yeti

Skoda Yeti India

Another Skoda makes it to the list is the Yeti. January 2015 saw 12 units and January 2016 saw just 1 units which accounts for 92% sales drop. Yeti is another premium product which the consumers want in discounts and hence the major numbers were sold in December. New freshly made Yeti will reach some time later and hence should improve sales numbers as well.

3. Ssangyong Rexton

Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton IndiaLast January, Mahindra-Ssangyong retailed 39 units while this January, only 3 units which accounts for 92% sales drop. Rexton has seen a strong competitor in the market called the Ford Endeavor. The SUV has been taking the limelight from all the premium products in the segment and going hard. Rexton was fruitful in the beginning and now it has started to decline. Expect a brand new version to launch in early 2018.

4. Honda Mobilio

Honda MobilioHonda Mobilio has made it to the list too. Despite high on space and because high on price, the numbers keep fluctuating. January 2015 saw 2940 units while in January 2016, sales dropped to just 441 units which accounts for 85% sales drop. The Mobilio has very little to offer in front of the competition and it continues to do as the all mighty consumer favorite Innova is in town now. Let’s see if this MPV goes the long or the short way.

5. Hyundai Elantra

Hyundai Elantra India
In January 2015, Hyundai retailed 244 units while in January 2016, only 42 units which accounts for 83% sales drop. Surprise drop in sales for the Elantra doesn’t say much. New year made cars could ship out late or the competition has got hold of the Elantra. The car recently got a facelift and turned out to be a impressive package as it a diesel automatic and has subtle power from the engine. Elantra new version which is set to come later this year could be reason why, owners are shying away too. Let’s wait till the fiscal year to see what happens next.
