New-gen Maruti Suzuki Ertiga will go on sale on November 21 with overhauled exterior and brand new interior features

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has its eyes firmly set on introducing the new generation Ertiga MPV on November 21. The Ertiga has not been through a whole lot of changes in its lifespan in India, which further emphasises the importance of the second generation model. Having made world premiere in April 2018 in Indonesia, the new Ertiga is finally heading our way and its production has already commenced.

The Ertiga has long been the top-selling MPV in its segment with none of its rivals even coming remotely close to its volume sales but the arrival of Mahindra Marazzo, that targets top-spec Ertiga variants, would have put some pressure on the Maruti Suzuki MPV. It also makes for an interesting rivalry with the upcoming Ertiga as it has become more premium than ever. Here are the top five reasons why the new-gen Ertiga is a premium MPV.

1. More Safety Features

First of all, the 2018 Ertiga will have high degree of standard safety features courtesy of the new platform as well as the stringent regulations. It will come equipped with dual front airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), reverse parking sensors, speed alert system, auto sensing door locks, seat belt reminder, etc as standard fitment across the range.

2. 1.5L Petrol Mild Hybrid Engine:

The outgoing 1.4-litre petrol engine will make way for a newly developed 1.5-litre K15B four-cylinder SHVS unit that debuted in the facelifted Ciaz and it makes more power along with being fuel efficient. The mild-hybrid mill develops 105 PS at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of peak torque delivered at 4,400 rpm.

It is mated to a five-speed manual as standard while a four-speed automatic is provided as optional. The 1.3-litre DDiS 200 diesel motor stays put and it will eventually be replaced by a BSVI compliant 1.5-litre unit.

3. Projector Headlamps & Smartplay Infotainment System:

The interior will get a number of revisions as part of making the new Ertiga more premium than ever before. The range-topping models will come equipped with Smartplay infotainment system enabling Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity alongside other smartphone integration technologies including navigation. For increased visibility, projector headlamps will also be on offer.

4. Premium Interior:

Stepping inside the cabin you will be treated with a similar feel to the latest Swift and Dzire. The major cabin highlights are layered dashboard and centre console, upmarket material finishes everywhere like faux wooden trim, along with automatic air conditioning, cruise control, flat-bottom steering wheel with integrated controls, new instrument cluster, chrome finished door handles and so on.

5. Brand New Design And Platform:

The all-new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is based on the lightweight Heartect platform despite sharing same wheelbase with the outgoing model at 2,470 mm. With increased proportions, the MPV is 99 mm longer, 40 mm wider and 5 mm taller while sacrificing on the bootspace department by 32 litres with 5 mm lesser ground clearance.

The upgraded design meant there is a set of sharper headlights, chrome embellishments on the new front grille, wider air intakes, revised bonnet, sportier character lines and a rear having L-shaped tail lights, chrome boot applique, etc.
