2018 kick-started with Auto Expo, which gave a preview of what to expect in coming years and so many manufacturers announced new models. Even though this year had so many launches across various segments some models stand out from others and in this article, we are featuring the top three cars launched in 2018.
1. Maruti Suzuki Swift
Ever since the launch of first generation Swift, it has been so popular among people across the country and the new generation model was launched in February. The new Swift is the fastest model to reach one lakh bookings and sales as the new model is based on Heartect platform for the hatchback. The Swift retained the same design theme from the previous model but the front and rear are completely new. The company has increased dimensions also and it improved space inside the cabin.
The interior continues the sporty design theme from the exterior and the hatchback is loaded with lots of features like touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, push-button start, keyless entry and more. The Swift is powered by a 1.2 L K-Series engine with 83 PS and 75 PS 1.3 L diesel engine with manual and AMT gearbox options.
2. Honda Amaze
The fortunes for Honda turned around with the launch of second-generation Amaze and the compact sedan made its debut at 2018 Auto Expo but the launch took place in May. Honda has given a new platform for the Amaze and the compact sedan dimensions increased, which has helped the engineers to liberate more space.
The exterior design is completely different from its predecessor and the interior also continues the new theme. The company has loaded the compact sedan with lots of features. The engine lineup includes a 1.2 L i-VTEC engine with 88 PS and 1.5 L i-DTEC unit with 100 PS. These engines are mated to manual and CVT gearbox but the diesel CVT combo comes with the detuned engine.
3. Hyundai Santro
After years of speculation, Hyundai finally re-introduced the Santro hatchback again but this time it is placed between Eon and Grand i10 in the lineup. The Santro is based on K1 platform and the structure is made from high strength steel materials to meet the upcoming tests. The hatchback continues the tall boy theme of its predecessor.
The exterior design took inspirations from Grand i10 and the interior gets an upmarket look as the hatchback comes with segment first features like touchscreen infotainment system, rear ac vents and rear camera with parking sensors. The Santro is powered by 1.1 L engine 69 bhp and 99 Nm, mated to 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox.
