The list of top 10 selling SUVs in February 2019 saw newly launched models such as Mahindra XUV300 and Tata Harrier making an impact

With automobile manufacturers targetting the vast underlying potential in SUV segments, there have been a number of new launches in the space since the beginning of 2019. Notably, the Tata Harrier, Nissan Kicks and Mahindra XUV300 entered their respective segments with huge anticipation.

While the Nissan Kicks endured 609 unit sales following 1,370 units in January, other two models have made a strong impression. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza continued to be the most sold SUV in the country in February 2019 as 11,613 units were dispatched and the Hyundai Creta sitting in a segment above was not far behind either.

The premium compact SUV garnered 10,206 units and was just 1,407 units behind the Vitara Brezza. More importantly, it was the only Hyundai to have registered positive YoY sales growth last month at 10 per cent. The Nexon remained as the second best-selling SUV in the subcompact segment and 5,263 units were retailed last month – its highest ever on a single month in India.

The newly launched Mahindra XUV300 with starting price of Rs. 7.90 lakh (ex-showroom) packs several segment-first as well as standard features and it quickly romped to the stardum by ending up ahead of the veteran Scorpio from its own stable. With 4,484 units, the XUV300 finished fourth and beat the Scorpio by a narrow margin of 39 units.

In the second half of the table, the Ford EcoSport recorded 3,156 units at a massive 42 per cent YoY sales drop as the Mahindra XUV300 appears to have eaten into its sales by quite a margin. Another Mahindra in the top 10 was the XUV500 as 1,806 units were sold to end up seventh while the Toyota Fortuner with 1,738 units continued to spearhead its segment.

Tata Harrier is the other new model that made its voices heard as 1,449 units were sold to slot it right ahead of the Jeep Compass. The appealing price range of Rs. 12.69 lakh to Rs. 16.25 lakh (ex-showroom) is complemented by the Impact Design 2.0 based exterior and an upscale interior making it a good overall package.
