Top 10 selling sedans in September 2016 in India encountered Maruti Suzuki’s domination with the Swift Dzire and Ciaz models

In the top ten sedans list for the month of September, it is clear that most of the successful models are from the sub-compact category. Maruti Suzuki has taken the top two positions thanks to the Swift Dzire and Ciaz sedans. The company well understood the Indian market and introduced the sedan derivative of Swift a few years ago and it paid dividends.

The Swift Dzire completed at the top of the table with 18,861 units, which is thrice as much of what the Ciaz could manage. The Ciaz mid-size sedan registered total sales of 6,544 examples last month and Maruti Suzuki played the game well here too. In recent months, the dominance of the popular Honda City had been overthrown and resultantly it is playing second fiddle.

Tata’s Kite 5 sedan has long been awaited and its arrival could spruce up the sales figures for the home-grown manufacturer in the sedan segment. Rounding out the table was the India-specific Ameo sedan from Volkswagen. Despite being a potent product, it appears to have entered in the already crowded segment late but the inclusion of diesel variants recently could spice things up for the German brand in the months to come.
