Top 10 selling hatchbacks in October 2017 witnessed Maruti Suzuki’s Alto and Baleno leading the way ahead of Hyundai Grand i10

The main advantage of Maruti Suzuki is its big range of presence in the entry level volume based segments from the low end of the spectrum to products in around 10 lakh category. Most of them are hatchbacks and standing in conformation to its popularity and customer interest are the list of top-selling models.

In the penultimate month of 2017, Maruti Suzuki’s six notorious hatchbacks have featured in the top ten and all of them are pretty much a mainstay. Heading the chart is none other than Alto which stayed ahead of the Baleno with a lead of over 5,400 units.

1.      Maruti Suzuki Alto 19,947
2.      Maruti Suzuki Baleno 14,538
3.      Hyundai Grand i10 14,417
4.      Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 13,043
5.      Maruti Suzuki Celerio 12,209
6.      Maruti Suzuki Swift 12,057
7.      Hyundai Elite i20 11,012
8.      Renault Kwid 8,136
9.      Tata Tiago 6,990
10.    Hyundai Eon 6,350

Glancing over the entire list, it is not tough to get carried away by the fact that Maruti and Hyundai hatchbacks have earned eight out of ten positions. But there is still plenty of hope in sales for the new products when priced rightly with good features list.

For example, Tata Motors and Renault have two of their most sold vehicles in the affordable hatchback segment. The Tiago arrived with fresh design language, fuel-efficient engines and good equipment level. With the SUV-esque exterior and a feature-packed cabin, the Kwid can be credited with all the success Renault has received in the last two years. Both these hatchbacks followed the same strategy by trying to become VFM in their respective range.

Hyundai Eon has had a roller coaster ride but it’s still the next best seller for the Korean brand behind the Grand i10, Elite i20 and Creta. Coming in at third was the Grand i10 with 14,417 unit sales in October 2017.

It finished ahead of the tall-riding Wagon R and Celerio.
