Top 10 selling hatchbacks in November 2017 witnessed Maruti Baleno posting a huge gap to main rival Hyundai Elite i20

The startling advantage of Maruti Suzuki is its wide range of presence in the entry-level volume segments from the low end of the spectrum to products in around 10 lakh slab. Most of them are well-known hatchbacks and standing in conformation to the brand’s popularity and customer interest are the list of top-selling models we have seen every month in the sales chart.

In the eleventh month of 2017, Maruti Suzuki’s five notorious hatchbacks have featured in the top ten and all of them are pretty much a mainstay up there. Heading the chart is none other than the Alto small hatchback which stayed ahead of the Baleno with a lead of nearly 6,400 units.

Looking at the entire list, it is not tough to get carried away by the fact that Maruti and Hyundai hatchbacks have occupied majority of positions. But there is still plenty of hope in sales for the new products when priced rightly with good features list. For instance, Tata Motors and Renault have two of their most sold vehicles in the affordable hatchback segment.

The Tiago arrived with fresh design language, fuel-efficient engines and good equipment level. With the SUV-esque exterior and a feature-packed cabin, the Kwid can be credited with all the success Renault has received in the last two years. Both these hatchbacks followed the same strategy by trying to become VFM in their respective range.

Tata Motors records 84% sales surge in March 2017Kwid has continued its good run of form with 5,726 units in ninth but its sales in recent months seem to be slowing down a bit. However, no such worries for the Tiago, which in eighth position achieved 7,416 units – its second best monthly numbers since entering the market. Hyundai Eon has had a roller coaster ride but it’s still the next best seller for the Korean brand behind the Grand i10, Elite i20 and Creta. Coming in at fifth was the Grand i10 with 13,249 unit sales in November 2017.

It finished behind the tall-riding Wagon R and Swift. With the latter adopting a new generation early next year, the popularity of the nimble hatchback does not seem to fade away as it ended up with 13,337 units. The gap between Baleno and its main rival Elie i20 has certainly opened up in recent months as the former finished second with 17,769 units and the Korean hatchback trailing by more than 7,500 units in sixth.
