The list of top 10 selling hatchbacks in April 2018 encountered Maruti Suzuki making a strong sales statement once again
The major plus of Maruti Suzuki is apparently its vast range of entry-level models in the mass market spaces. With every affordable car being hatchback, except Omni and Eeco, they are present for years while the new models are making name for themselves. The largest automaker in the country’s popularity among customers is underlined by its presence in the top ten most sold monthly hatchback list.
In the fifth month of the year, Maruti Suzuki’s six popular hatchbacks are featured in the top ten and pretty much all of them are mainstays. Topping the table is the new generation Swift for the first time as was positioned ahead of the Alto and Baleno with a total of 22,776 unit sales.

At second, the Alto managed 21,233 units in April 2018. The new Swift is likely to record even more sales in the coming months going by its humongous booking numbers. The ever popular Baleno stays in third with 20,412 deliveries ahead of the tall riding WagonR which registered 16,561 units.
Glancing over the entire table, it is very easy to get carried away by the ominous presence of Maruti and Hyundai hatchbacks but growth potential is always there with the existence of Tata Tiago and Renault Kwid. If priced well with good features and efficient engines, the segment under Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh price bracket can further be exploited.

The Kwid takes most of the credits for Renault’s local market share in the last couple of years but the company cannot rely on just a single product. Both Tiago and Kwid follow same strategy of being VFM products in their respective segments. The Tata Tiago and Renault Kwid have been outsold by Celerio last month while Ignis rounded out the top 10.
