Maruti Suzuki Baleno 2016 india launch red-1

Top 10 selling cars in November 2016 saw Hyundai Elite i20 facing sales decline against Baleno while Tiago helped Tata to move up in OEM rankings

With Vitara Brezza going strongly every month, Maruti Suzuki still managed to get seven vehicles in the best-selling chart for the month of November 2016. Besides the regular top four positions locked out by the ever-popular Alto, Swift Dzire, Wagon R and Swift, the Baleno premium hatchback lived by its expectations once again as it crossed 11,000 units for the first time since launching at the end of October 2015.

It was further helped by Celerio which saw a substantial sales increase and sold close to 10,000 units. As the auto industry grew by two percent last month despite demonetisation, the largest manufacturer of passenger cars in the country has grabbed an unbelievable 52.2 percent market share with YoY growth of 14.1 percent.

This will help ease the waiting period for Baleno which has also seen increased level of export from local plants. The brand’s target of selling two million units by 2020 seems to be right on the money.

The entry-level Alto small hatchback endured 23,320 units last month ahead of Swift Dzire with 17,218 examples. It was closely followed by Wagon R tall-boy, receiving a special edition Felicity lately, with 15,566 units. The Swift compact hatchback set to be treated with a new generation is going strongly with 14,594 units.

While the Baleno premium hatchback wrapped November with 11,093 units, its main rival Elite i20 along with Active crossover could only manage 8,917 sales figure and was dropped to ninth. The increase in entry-level sales meant that Celerio made use of the situation as 9,543 examples were retailed last month. The Grand i10 is the ace product for the Korean brand in terms of sales and is about to get a facelift by January.

With less than favourable sales for Elite i20 last month and 21 percent drop for Eon, Hyundai saw 8 percent YoY sales decline. For Renault though, its little charm Kwid continues to pull the attention as it slotted at the final position with 7,847 units. Tata Motors’ climb in the OEM rankings to third has been aided by the growth of Tiago’s sales as 6,008 units were sold last month.
