Top 10 selling cars in March 2016; Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Creta and Renault Kwid are here to stay

As ever, Maruti Suzuki had been at the top of the proceedings as well as the familiar four grabbed the top positions. These four cars ended the last fiscal in the same order suggesting that their consistency is here to say as in the previous years.

The largest car manufacturer in the country had the best-selling vehicle in the history registered at number one with a total of 22,101 units. Holding on to the coveted second position is the Swift Dzire which set the benchmark for a few years now at the sub-four metre sedan segment despite more rivals coming in with 17,796 examples sold any the end of March.

The Wagon R tall-rider hatchback has had a successful FY2016 with surge in growth and it is more likely to stay third for several months to come – 14,577 units were sold in India in the month of March. The dynamic quartet was swooped by the Swift hatchback as the arrival of Baleno and Vitara Brezza took their toll on the sales of long-running compact model. It recorded a sales of 14,524 units last month.

Snubbing the morale, Renault Kwid has climbed up the ranks in recent months on the back of its astonishing popularity. With Renault being a relatively new brand in India, the way the French company managing the deliveries with limited waiting period is certainly applaudable. At the end of March 2016, 9,743 units of the SUV-esque hatchback were retailed.

Although Hyundai’s entry-level small hatchback Eon has been punted out of top 10, the Elite i20 encountered its most auspicious sales in the concluded fiscal. The premium hatchback stays eighth with 8,713 examples sold while its smaller cousin Grand i10 came in at sixth with 9,544 units. The largest exporter of passenger cars in the nation produced another top-seller in the name of Creta late last year.

With the honour of being the leading SUV in the market, the Hyundai Creta notched up a ninth position with a total retail figure of 8,163 units. With the sales of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio under threat due to the newly launched Tata Tiago, it rounded out the month of March with 8,859 units at seventh position. Maruti Suzuki Baleno wrapped up the top ten sales chart by garnering 6,236 units in March 2016.
