Top 10 selling cars in May 2019 saw Maruti Suzuki covering eight out of ten positions despite enduring 25.1 per cent YoY sales decline
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) dominated the sales charts once again for the month of May as eight out of top ten positions belonged to the brand. The Indo-Japanese manufacturer saw a massive sales decline of 25.1 per cent last month as 1,21,018 units were sold against 1,61,497 units in the same month last year.
The de-growth led to Maruti Suzuki losing 3.1 per cent market share while Hyundai gained 2.9 per cent market share in May 2019 amidst encountering 6 per cent volume fall. All the car makers faced sales decline last month except for Mahindra & Mahindra that finished in third place behind Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai with 1 per cent YoY volume increase.
The Swift hatchback registered the most sales with 17,039 units as it got back to the leading position. After going on sale in February 2018, the latest Swift carries on the success of its predecessor and it finished ahead of the mainstay Maruti Suzuki Alto, Dzire and Baleno.
