Top 10 Selling Cars in January 2017

Maruti Suzuki Baleno 2016 india launch red-1

The list of top 10 selling cars in January 2017 has eight Maruti Suzuki vehicles while the Grand i10 and Elite i20 fill up the remaining two spots

Maruti Suzuki has started the new year the way it left off the last as eight cars in the top ten charts at the end of January were from the Indo-Japanese manufacturer. As has been the case for several years, the Alto entry-level hatchback managed to lead the way as a total of 22,998 units were registered.

Behind the Alto was the Swift Dzire compact sedan which will soon be replaced by a new generation model in the months to come. Despite encountering an up and down 2016 against its YoY sales, the volume catering sedan recorded 18,088 examples in January 2017.

The WagonR is another long-running model that set the cash registers ringing. With a next gen model expected only in a while, monthly sales figures like 14,930 units would keep the momentum swinging in its favour.

The ever-attractive Swift compact hatchback has received a new version globally but due to the auspicious sales of the current model and the captivating sales of latest releases, Maruti could postponed its entry to early 2018. It finished the opening month of 2017 with 14,545 units. The two Hyundai products significantly gather sales are the Grand i10 and the Elite i20.

Based on the Euro-spec i10, the Grand has received a facelift and is expected to officially launch in the coming days. At the end of Jan, it registered 13,010 to slot in at fifth ahead of the Baleno-rivalling i20 premium hatchback with 11,460 units. Behind the Korean hatchbacks, Celerio featured at seventh with 10,879 units.

While the two latest launches of Maruti Suzuki, Baleno and Vitara Brezza, have become certain hits the ageing Omni van rounded out the top ten with 8,723 units of sale. Since introduction, Baleno has constantly been up there with the Elite i20 while Vitara Brezza mocked the competition and rose to segment-leading status within a few months of its entry.
