As has been the case, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai managed to make a compelling impact in the top selling monthly sales table for February 2019. The one big difference, apart from the models rejig in positions, was that the best-selling Tata in India, Tiago, re-entered by disposing Maruti Suzuki Celerio.
It registered a total of 8,286 units last month as against 6,718 units in February 2018 with a sales surge of 23 per cent. The Alto continued to remain as the most retailed in the concluded month as 24,751 units were sold at an appreciable YoY growth of 25 per cent. Coming in at second was the Swift as 18,224 units were dispatched at a narrow increase of 5 per cent.
The Baleno and Dzire have found their footing in the top four places in recent times and February 2019 was no different. Despite Baleno enduring 14 per cent YoY sales increase with 17,944 units, the subcompact sedan had to make do with a big slump of 24 per cent compared to the corresponding month last year.

Its segment has got more lively since the introduction of the Mahindra XUV300 as it overtook Ford EcoSport with 4,484 units. The gap between Elite i20 and Baleno has been expanding in recent months as the latter continues to get ahead in terms of sales numbers and the arrival of Tata Altroz by the second half of the year could cause more headaches.
The Korean hatchback recorded 11,547 units last month with 14 per cent sales decline. The Grand i10, on the other hand, did not have a commanding month either as it stood at ninth position with 9,065 units and 11 per cent sales fall.
