The top 10 selling bikes in January 2019 saw Hero HF Deluxe finishing very close to Splendor with nearly two lakh unit sales

Hero MotoCorp has been the undisputed leader in the Indian motorcycle space courtesy of some of its long-standing models. The Splendor delivered once again and helped Hero to have a healthy start to 2019 as 2,23,909 units meant it was way ahead of even the Honda Activa by more than 10,600 units in January 2019.

Despite the Splendor’s numbers, Hero registered 8 per cent sales slump against the same month last year with 35.68 per cent overall market share. Standing in at second in the top 10 monthly sales charts for January 2019 was another entry-level commuter from Hero as the HF Deluxe racked up a massive 1,95,706 units with 14 per cent YoY growth.

Two more stalwarts helping Hero every month in achieving big volumes could not reach their usual figures last month. For instance, the Passion ended up sixth with 47,511 units at sales slump of 23 per cent. On the other hand, the Glamour finished a lowly ninth with 45,933 units at a huge sales drop of 39 per cent.

Looking elsewhere, Bajaj has performed really well with 24.7 per cent YoY growth cumulatively. This was due to the presence of three of its popular nameplates as the Pulsar, Platina and CT100 had faced big sales surges in January 2019. The Pulsar 150 alone saw 122 per cent YoY sales increase with Platina and CT100 at 57 and 152 per cents respectively.

The arrival of new variants and special editions had helped Bajaj to post appreciable sales increase from the Pulsar 150 range. Honda’s only motorcycle in the top ten was the CB Shine as it recorded 86,616 units at a growth of 5 per cent YoY to finish ahead of the Pulsar in third position.
