The list of top 10 most sold cars in FY2017-18 saw Maruti Suzuki dominating again with 7 products as Alto finished ahead of Dzire and Baleno

Despite the topsy-turvy environment created by GST and the resultant cess rates along with tax on CKDs, the auto industry witnessed encouraging sales numbers in the last financial year. Maruti Suzuki recorded its highest ever total sales in FY2017-18 as 17,79,574 units were sold with a growth of 13.4 percent.

The second biggest automaker in the country, Hyundai, saw 5,36,241 units being sold with a growth rate of 5.2 percent. With 23 percent domestic sales surge, Tata finished ahead of Honda in fourth position while Mahindra ended up third with 10 percent FY growth compared to previous fiscal.

Maruti Suzuki’s domination in the market was indeed led by Alto with 2,58,539 units but the arrival of latest generation Dzire proved that bigger potential of the subcompact sedan compact. It completed the FY with just 18,415 deliveries adrift of the Alto.

The bestselling premium hatchback in India, Baleno, covers third with 1,90,480 units while its biggest nemesis Hyundai Elite i20 managed to achieve 1,23,139 unit sales and finished only eighth in the top 10 charts. Coming in at fourth was the Swift with 1,75,928 units by beating its close competition, Hyundai Grand i10 that slotted in at sixth with 1,51,113 units.

2017 hyundai grand i10 facelift india-5More is expected of the new Swift as its bookings are reaching new heights every month and it could topple Alto by the end of this fiscal. The tall-riding Wagon R completed fifth with 1,68,644 and is expected to get a seven-seater variant soon.

At seventh, Vitara Brezza with just one engine and a transmission option has been the most popular SUV in its segment and 1,48,462 deliveries were made along the course of last twelve months. The last two slots are filled by Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki Celerio as 1,07,136 and 94,721 units were retailed respectively.
