Maruti Suzuki’s domination in the market was indeed led by Alto with 2,58,539 units but the arrival of latest generation Dzire proved that bigger potential of the subcompact sedan compact. It completed the FY with just 18,415 deliveries adrift of the Alto.
The bestselling premium hatchback in India, Baleno, covers third with 1,90,480 units while its biggest nemesis Hyundai Elite i20 managed to achieve 1,23,139 unit sales and finished only eighth in the top 10 charts. Coming in at fourth was the Swift with 1,75,928 units by beating its close competition, Hyundai Grand i10 that slotted in at sixth with 1,51,113 units.
More is expected of the new Swift as its bookings are reaching new heights every month and it could topple Alto by the end of this fiscal. The tall-riding Wagon R completed fifth with 1,68,644 and is expected to get a seven-seater variant soon.
At seventh, Vitara Brezza with just one engine and a transmission option has been the most popular SUV in its segment and 1,48,462 deliveries were made along the course of last twelve months. The last two slots are filled by Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki Celerio as 1,07,136 and 94,721 units were retailed respectively.
