Top 10 Most Sold Cars In 2017 In India

2017 new maruti dzire review-25 (india car sales may 2018)

Maruti Suzuki proved its leading status once again as 2017 saw seven of its vehicles featuring in the top ten sales chart

Maruti Suzuki has had another successful year in dominating the sales charts as seven out of top ten cars sold in India wore its badge. The most interesting fact is that except Alto, Wagon R and Swift all the other products from the Indo-Japanese manufacturer are the ones from recent past. For instance the Baleno premium hatchback entered India at the end of 2015 and quickly surpassed its main rival Hyundai Elite i20 in the premium hatchback segment.

It has been the third bestselling car in 2017 with a total of 1,75,209 units and ended up retailing 58,949 units over the eighth-placed i20. The facelifted i20 is expected to arrive at the Auto Expo next month and will renew the rivalry as more close sales tussle predicted out of them.

Top 10 Most Sold Cars In 2017 In India  No. of Units Sold
1) Maruti Suzuki Alto  2,57,732
2) Maruti Suzuki Dzire  2,25,043
3) Maruti Suzuki Baleno  1,75,209
4) Maruti Suzuki Swift  1,67,371
5) Maruti Suzuki Wagon R  1,66,815
6) Hyundai Grand i10  1,54,747
7)Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza  1,40,945
8) Hyundai Elite i20  1,16,260
9) Hyundai Creta  1,05,484
10) Maruti Suzuki Celerio  1,00,860

Following the Baleno, Maruti announced its comeback into SUV space with the subcompact Vitara Brezza in early 2016 and it dispossessed Ford EcoSport in its segment soon after. With 1,40,945 units sold in 2017, it was the most sold SUV in the country. Although recent launches like the Ignis and S-cross are doing just a decent turn of sales, the latest generation Dzire pulled out all the stops and registered the second best figure in the whole industry with 2,25,043 units.

Considering that Maruti launched the Dzire only in May 2017 and the yearly sales number of Dzire was just 32,689 units adrift of the Alto, we can safely assume that the subcompact sedan has not had its popularity relented. While it explains where customers’ preference has moved to in recent times, we suspect the Dzire could become the most sold vehicle in 2018 by overtaking Alto and setting a new record.

Hyundai Creta Review - Hyundai Creta E+ (E Plus)

With the new generation Swift arriving at Auto Expo, Maruti is predicted to have a busy year ahead in terms of sales. It is expected to pick off where its predecessor leaves as it finished fourth in the most sold sales chart for 2017 with 1,67,371 units. As Maruti WagonR and Celerio continued their strong run in the market, Hyundai had the Grand i10 as its ace vehicle in sales.

It finished sixth with 1,54,747 deliveries while the expensive product in the top ten, Creta, impressed yet again with 1,05,484 unit sales and ended up ninth. A facelift for the compact SUV is believed to be on the cards by the second half of this year with subtle exterior changes.
