Right from the bottom, Honda’s small car, the Brio, endured a difficult year with the highest sales it managed was in March at just over 1,600 units. This has mainly been due to the arrival of Renault Kwid recently and buyers tend to prefer Hyundai i10 instead.
With a 56% drop in sales in November compared to the same time last year, Brio retailed a mediocre 461 units. Its rival from Renault, the Micra, suffered a similar proposition as it didn’t get past 500 Mark the whole year.
Only 142 Micras were sold in November compared to 432 in 2014 to feature fifth on the list, it emphasises Renault’s flag hoister in the country could only be Kwid and the soon to be launched Duster Facelift in the first half of 2016. Chevrolet has both of its latest products make into losers chart with Sail U-VA hatchback third and Sail Sedan seventh.
The latter has been hit severely as in the last five months it averaged less than 300 units monthly whilst U-VA hatchback face a downward curve month-on-month with only 92 cars being sold in November 2015 at a 75% fall in comparison – averaging around a lowly 100 units in the last few months.
Tata Zest sedan plunged to half of its monthly sales, from an around 3,000 average, this July and continued that trend to end November with 1,657 units and ninth on the list – 57% fall compared to last November.
The entry of Maruti Suzuki Baleno has thrown a huge blow for premium hatchback competitors as Volkswagen Polo registered 1,169 units of sales which is 59% down when compared to 2,843 the same month last year to languish eighth. At sixth, Hyundai Elantra could be the only less retailed vehicle for the second largest car maker in the country.
Only 70 units of Elantra were sold last month which is already a 66% slump compared to November 2014. In the top four, the two premium Skoda vehicles sat namely Superb at fourth and Yet at second. The tall-rider came in at second with just two cars being sold shamefully compared to 10 last year. That worrying stats is topped off by Superb’s selling of 31 units – 70% fall compared to November 2014.
Leading the way in our losers table is the seven-seater Honda Mobilio due to the continued rise of Maruti Ertiga and good turn out for Toyota Innova. Last November saw Mobilio drawing a sales of 3,588 units whereas in contrast it retailed less than 400 units at a market trembling drop of 89%.
