In Feb 2023, the top ten hatchbacks list saw Maruti Suzuki Baleno regaining the top spot as it finished ahead of its siblings Swift and Alto

Maruti Suzuki has been concentrating on bringing in new SUVs and premium offerings in recent times but the major chunk of the total volume comes from its entry-level models every month. The Baleno was the most sold passenger car in the country last month and it was also the highest sold hatchback with a domestic tally of 18,592 units.

Compared to the same period last year with a total of 12,570 units, a YoY positive volume growth of 48 per cent was noted. The Maruti Suzuki Swift finished in the second position with 18,412 units against 19,202 units Feb 2022 with a YoY drop of 4 per cent. The Alto entry-level hatchback garnered 18,114 units against 11,551 units.

This led to a YoY positive sales increase of 57 per cent. The Baleno, Swift and Alto combined to register over 55,000 unit sales last month. The Wagon R finished in the fourth position with a total of 16,889 units against 14,669 units in Feb 2022 with a YoY growth of 15 per cent. The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios finished in the fifth position.

The i10 Nios and the Aura received facelifted a few weeks ago in India. The i10 posted 9,635 unit sales last month as against 8,552 units during the same period in 2022 with a YoY volume increase of 13 per cent.

In the second half of the table, Hyundai’s i20 finished in the sixth position with 9,287 units against 5,830 units in February 2022 with a growth of 59 per cent. The Tata Tiago ended up seventh ahead of Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Celerio and Toyota Glanza.

2023 Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Facelift

The Tiago endured the highest YoY growth of 66 per cent within the top ten as a total of 7,457 units were registered against 4,489 units. The Ignis managed to post 4,749 units while the Celerio and Glanza recorded 4,458 units and 4,223 units respectively. The Celerio had to deal with a YoY drop of 55 per cent.
