Maruti Suzuki officially launched the new generation Wagon R last month and the price starts at Rs. 4.19 lakh (Ex-Showroom). The new Wagon R comes with two engines options and it gets loads of features also. In this article, we take a look at the top 10 features of the new Wagon R.

1. New Platform

The new Wagon R is based on the advanced fifth-generation Heartect platform and it is already the base for other models like Swift, Dzire, Baleno and Ignis. Thanks to the new platform, the current generation Wagon R is lighter than its predecessor and the chassis is stronger, as it needs to meet the upcoming safety norms.

2. Increased Dimensions

The third generation Wagon R is longer and wider than the earlier model as the hatchback measures 3655 mm length, 1620 mm width, 1675 mm height and 2435 mm wheelbase. The boot space of Wagon R is 341 litres. The Wagon R rides on 14-inch wheels, which improve the stability of the hatchback, especially in the highway.

3. Evolutionary Design

Maruti Suzuki has given an evolutionary design for the new Wagon R as the hatchback retains the same tall boy theme, which makes it popular. The front gets new grille with revised headlamps and a new bumper. The side design is similar to the earlier model and the rear get new horizontal tail lamps, which is similar to the one on new Ertiga.

4. New Interior

The interior design of Wagon R is completely different as the company has given new three spoke multi-function steering wheel and a new instrument cluster. The infotainment system is integrated into the centre console and AC controls are placed below. The design of the dashboard gives the impress of a big car and the new model gets fixed headrests.

5. Lots of Features

The Wagon R is loaded with features like touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android, Bluetooth connectivity, steering mounted controls, voice controls, electronically controlled exterior mirrors, rear parking sensors, four-door power windows. Remote keyless entry, rear defogger, 1L bottle holder and more.

6. Safety

The new generation of Wagon R gets lots of safety features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Seat Belt Reminder, Speed Alert System, Rear Parking Sensors, front fog lamps, speed sensitive auto door lock, seat belt pre-tensioner, child proof rear door lock and more.

7. New 1.2 L Engine

The Wagon R now comes with 1.2 L K12M series engine, which does duty on so many other models from the company and it produces 83 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options. But the engine is tuned for city driving conditions as power delivery is linear.

8. Updated 1.0 L Engine

The new Wagon R retains the same 1.0 L engine from the earlier model but it has been updated and the engine produces 67 PS of power at 5,500 rpm and 90 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. Maruti Suzuki offers both manual and AMT gearbox options.

9. Efficiency

The third generation Wagon R is more efficient than its predecessor as the 1.0 L engine returns 22.5 Km/l for both manual and AMT. The powerful 1.2 L engine returns 21.5 Km/l.

10. Price

The new generation Wagon R is available in LXi, VXi and top end ZXi. The 1.0 L engine is available only with LXi and VXi while the 1.2 L with VXi and ZXi engine. The 1.0 Wagon R price starts at Rs. 4.19 Lakh and goes all the way up to Rs. 5.16 Lakh while the 1.2 L is priced between Rs. 4.89 Lakh and Rs. 5.69 lakh (all prices, Ex-Showroom Delhi).
