The launch season of 2019 starts in January as manufacturers are planning to launch so many new models from small hatchbacks to premium models. Like previous years, the companies are giving importance for SUV models and in this article, we are featuring the top 10 cars launches of 2019 dominated especially by compact SUVs.

1. Tata Harrier

Tata Harrier is one of the most awaited models to be introduced in India and the launch is expected to take place in January. The production model shares lots of design cues with the H5X concept and the SUV also debut the new Impact Design 2.0 of the company. The Harrier is based on D8 platform of Land Rover Discovery Sport and both models share lots of components. The interior is completely new and the company has packed the SUV with lots of features. The engine lineup includes 2.0 L diesel engine from FCA with 140 PS and mated to 6-speed manual gearbox.

2. Mahindra XUV 300

Mahindra XUV 300 is the second SsangYong re-engineered product as it is based on the Tivoli platform and both models share lots of components to keep cost low for the company, which will help them to price it aggressively. The exterior design is different from Tivoli as one of the unique design themes is LED DRLs, which extend towards fog lamps. The interior is shared with Tivoli and the compact SUV comes with segment first features. The XUV 300 is powered by 1.2 L turbocharged petrol engine and 1.5 L diesel engine from Marazzo with manual and AMT gearbox options.

3. Nissan Kicks

Nissan is going to launch the Kicks in January and the company revealed the production model last year. The exterior design of India-spec model is slightly different to the global version as they increased dimensions and it is based on the same platform as Renault Duster to keep cost down. The interior design of Kicks is new and it comes with some segment first features also. The Kicks is powered by 1.5 L diesel and petrol engine from Captur with a manual transmission.

4. Honda Civic

Honda Civic made its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo and the new generation model will be launched later this year. The tenth generation model will finally come with the option of a diesel engine as the 1.6 L engine produces 120 hp and 300 Nm, mated to 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic transmission. The 1.8 L petrol engine puts 140 hp and 174 Nm, mated to 7-speed CVT. The design theme of the new Civic is similar to the Accord and the interior design is also new with lots of new features.

5. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R

Maruti Suzuki will launch the new Wagon R on January 23rd and the company has given an evolutionary design theme for the new model. The front gets new grille along with big headlamps while the rear gets vertical tail lamps. The interior is expected to be completely different and modern with features like a touchscreen on the top end model. The hatchback will also come with safety features to meet the upcoming norms. The engine is expected to be the same 1.0 L engine and it will be mated to manual and AMT gearbox options.

6. Maruti Y1K

Maruti Suzuki is currently working on a new micro-SUV and it is codenamed as Y1K. The upcoming model takes design cues from Concept Future S  and it will come with high ground clearance. The interior design will be completely different from other models and the new model will be class leading in terms of features. The micro-SUV will be powered by a new turbocharged 660 cc petrol engine with 51 PS and 63 Nm, mated to manual and AMT gearbox options. The launch will take place by the end of this year.

7. Hyundai QXi

Hyundai is finally going to enter the compact SUV segment and the new model is codenamed as QXi. The compact SUV took design inspirations from Carlino concept and the interior will be in line with other models from the company. The QXi will come with class-leading features and the quality will be top notch. The upcoming model will also debut the turbocharged petrol engine from Hyundai along with same 1.2 L petrol and 1.4 L diesel engines with the option of manual and AMT gearbox options.

8. Hyundai Grand i10

The third generation of Grand i10 is currently under development and it will be launched in the second half of this year. The new model will come with an evolutionary design and the dimensions will be bigger than its predecessor. The interior will be modern and the design will be similar to other new generation Hyundai models. The engine lineup includes the same 1.2 L petrol and diesel engine, which will be updated to meet BSVI norms with options of manual and AMT gearbox.

9. Kia SUV

Kia is going to enter the Indian market this year and the first model will be the production version of the SP concept as the company has carried most of the design elements. The front gets signature grille of Kia with split headlamp set up and the rear get LED tail lamps. The SUV is based on the same platform as next-generation Creta. The interior will be similar to other Kia models and it will come with lots of features. The SUV is expected to be powered by a turbocharged petrol engine and a new 1.5 L diesel engine with manual and auto gearbox.

10. MG SUV

MG Motors first model for India will be an SUV and it will be based on Baojun 530 but the company will make design changes like new front grille along with other sheet metal changes. The interior will be different with a big vertically placed infotainment screen to control most of the things and the company is benchmarking the interior against Hyundai Tucson. The SUV will be a 5 seater and it will be powered by both petrol and diesel engine sourced from FCA with the option of manual and auto gearbox with four-wheel drive system also.
