In the list of top 10 cars in December 2023, Tata Nexon led the way ahead of Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Tata Punch and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

In the final month of the 2023 calendar year, Tata Nexon became the most sold passenger car in the country for the first time as it garnered a total of 15,284 units as against 12,053 units during the same period in 2022 with a YoY positive sales surge of 27 per cent. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire came in second with a total of 14,012 units.

In comparison to the same period the previous year with 11,997 units, a YoY growth of 17 per cent was noted for the compact sedan, which is due a big update this year. The Tata Punch micro SUV finished in the third position with 13,787 units as against 10,586 units in December 2022 with a YoY volume increase of 30 per cent in India.

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga was the fourth most sold model with a domestic tally of 12,975 units as against 12,273 units with a YoY growth of 6 per cent. The Brezza compact SUV, one of the main rivals of the Nexon, finished in the fifth position with 12,844 units as against 11,200 units with a YoY sales increase of 15 per cent.

In the second half of the table, Maruti Suzuki’s Swift registered a total of 11,843 units as against 12,061 units during the corresponding period twelve months ago with a YoY volume de-growth of 2 per cent. The Mahindra Scorpio finished in the seventh position as the combined sales of the Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic stood at 11,355 units.

Compared to the same period in 2022 with 7,003 units, the Scorpio range recorded a massive YoY surge of 62 per cent – highest within the top ten. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno came in at eighth with 10,669 units as against 16,932 units with a YoY negative sales growth of 37 per cent last month.

The Hyundai Venue finished in the ninth position with 10,383 units as against 8,285 units with a growth of 25 per cent. The Maruti Suzuki Eeco rounded out the top ten with 10,034 units as against 10,581 units with a YoY decline of 5 per cent.
