The Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP will be powered by 1.2 L turbocharged engine from Nexon, expected to deliver more power than Nexon Petrol

Tata Motors is going to launch the Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP performance models in India on October 26th. Both models were first previewed at the 2018 Auto Expo as the affordable performance segment is expanding in India. The production models were spotted on the public road earlier this month, which confirmed that launch is near.

The company has joined hands with Coimbatore based Jayam Auto to develop these performance models and branded them as JTP (Jayem Tata Performance). Both models are powered by the same 1.2 L turbocharged petrol engine from Nexon but the company has made some changes to the intake and exhaust system to increase power output with better Power to weight ratio.

This engine in Nexon puts out 110 hp of power and 170 Nm of torque. So the Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP come with more power than Baleno RS and Polo GT models. These performance models weigh less compared to Nexon, so we can expect performance to be really good and the company will give 5-speed gearbox instead of 6-speed unit from the compact SUV.

This gearbox will be tuned for the new engine and the company won’t offer an automatic transmission. Tata Motors will make some changes to the suspension as the ride height will be lowered and it will be tuned for sporty handling. We can also expect the braking system to also get an upgrade.

The exterior difference on both models is subtle as the front get new bumper along with tweaked grille, new bigger air-intake and redesigned fog lamp housing. The company has also given air-intake on the hood and side gets the same design from the regular model except for the 15-inch alloy wheels, which gets a new design theme.

The rear will also come with a new bumper along with twin exhaust, faux diffuser, rear fog lamps and an integrated bumper. The roof and mirrors are finished in black colour to make them look sporty. The interior gets an all-black colour and red accents to spice up the cabin along with touchscreen infotainment system also.

Tata Motors will increase the price of JTP models by 1 lakh compared to the standard model, but still, these models will offer incredible VFM in performance segment.
