The customized Himalayan is commissioned by the Royal Enfield for the 10th Edition of Bike Shed exhibition.
Royal Enfield motorcycles are a hotbed for customizers and modifiers across the globe. Realizing the interest of enthusiasts and motorcycle aficionados, Royal Enfield themselves forayed into custom bike building, although they outsource the mod-job to known custom houses and garages.
At the 10th Edition of Bike Shed exhibition, Royal Enfield showcased three custom motorcycles that attracted a lot of eyeballs. While the first two were custom versions of the recently launched Continental GT 650 mid-capacity bike, the third and most attractive was the modified Himalayan.
The Himalayan is a 411cc off-roading capable motorcycle and has been labelled MJR Roach. The Roach gets an attractive design change, some additional hardware changes but no mechanical changes to the powerplant and continues to be powered by the same 411cc petrol single cylinder unit producing 24.5 bhp peak power and 32 Nm peak torque mated to a 5-speed transmission.
As for the design changes, the modified Royal Enfield Himalayan gets a four pod projector lamp, a new paint scheme with a yellow coloured line on the top of the bike, a single seat with a luggage rack at the back.
Some changes have been made to the structure of the bike like a single-sided swingarm, a monoshock suspension, removal of the windscreen, a custom metallic panel above the headlamps and upside down telescopic forks in the front.
Both the front and rear wheels get off-road tyres. Also, the rear tyre has been replaced with a much chunkier and low profile tyre, while the front tyre size remains the same. The stock exhaust has been replaced by a customized twin-pipe exhaust system.
Royal Enfield sells the Himalayan in India at Rs 1.80 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and competes against Bajaj Dominar. There are only two colour options Snow White and Granite Black.
