Tesla Model 3 spotted during filming; deliveries to begin towards the end of 2017

A Tesla Model 3 prototype has been caught on camera on the streets of Marina Del Rey in southern California. With the Model S camera car in front of it, the Model 3 must have been doing promotional shooting. The video has given a better idea of the proportion and design ideology of the global all-electric model from Tesla.

Already 3,25,000 pre-orders have been made within just a week as Tesla banking high on the Model 3. They could face time lag in deliveries as the first set of Model 3 production-versions will be available only by the end of 2017 and the prototype seen in the video may not be the final finished product either.

Last week, Elon Musk said this is just the phase one of the Model 3 unveil as the second part will be hosted towards the end of the product’s release. With the starting price of the model 3 at $35,000, less than half the price of the Model S and Model X, the first 200,000 customers will be receiving federal tax credit of $7,500.

The Tesla Model 3 will be offered with rear-wheel drive system as standard while the dual-motor all-wheel drive configuration will be given as optional. It can comfortably seat five occupants according to Tesla with a battery pack enough to squeeze out a driving range of 215 miles (346 kilometres) as certified by EPA.

The lack of internal combustion engine meant that the wheel arches have been pushed further to the edge with the driver and co-passenger space moved in front to add extra stylishness and cabin space. It is claimed to do 96 kmph from standstill in under six seconds and features standard autopilot and a 15-inch tablet-alike touchscreen infotainment system. Tesla is exploring ways to boost up the production and a factory could be established in France to meet the demands of the European market as French ministry expressed support.
