Tata’s car sales took a surge as it sold 10,855 units last month; attributed to strong demand of Tiago, Tigor and Hexa

Tata Motors is seeing good fortune with models like Tiago, Tigor and Hexa. The company has seen 27% increase in the May 2017 sales number compared to May 2016. It has sold a total of 10,855 passenger vehicles in last month. Overall, combining the PV and CV, Tata has sold 38,361 units in last month, registering a 4% decline compared to the same month last year.

In the domestic market, the company has seen a sales decline of 3% with 34,431 units in last month compared to 35,695 units in the corresponding month in 2016. The homegrown auto major is the biggest CV manufacturer in the domestic market and in last month, it sold 23,606 units in the country that was 13% lower over May 2016 sales number.

For the last couple of months after demonetisation the BS-III sales ban has affected the commercial vehicles sales massively. From the sales record of the Tata Motors, it is clear that demand for commercial vehicles is yet to be picked up. As we have reported few days back, shortage of Bosch manufactured BS-IV compliant fuel injection systems have affected the entire CV industry and Tata is no different as well.

Speaking about the sales performance of the company, Mr. Mayank Pareek, president of Tata Motors’ passenger vehicles business unit has said the strong performance of new models like Tiago, Tigor and Hexa has helped the brand to achieve positive sales result. But he also believes that uncertainty and different interpretations of GST will impact the buying sentiment in June 2017 sales result.

GST is the new tax structure about to be rolled out across the country from 1st July this year. Under this new tax system, small cars will become pricier than the large cars, luxury cars and big SUVs. Meanwhile Tata is working on couple of new models that are expected to boost the brand’s sales figure in near future. The upcoming Tata cars include Tat Nexon compact hatchback, X451 premium hatchback etc.
