The Tiago is the most popular model of Tata Motors currently on sale and the company expanded the lineup with two new variants – NRG and JTP

Tata Motors launched Tiago in 2016 and the hatchback was completely different from any other models launched till then as it comes with new design along with good quality interiors, lots of features, frugal engine and aggressive pricing. Even though initially people were not confident, but over the time Tiago has turned the mind of customers, which helped the company to improve reputation as a reliable brand.

The Tiago is yet to get a mid-life facelift but sales are really strong and the company has expanded the lineup with two new variants – NRG and JTP. The NRG is basically a crossover version of Tiago in which the company has made some changes to make the hatchback look rugged. On the other hand, the JTP model is the performance variant of Tiago. In this article, we take a look at the difference between all three models.

Design

The Tiago is the first model to feature impact design philosophy of Tata Motors and the hatchback has won so many customers heart with its stylish design. The NRG variant gets slight changes like a black plastic cladding across the body, faux skid plates, 14-inch dual tone alloy wheels, black finish for the grille, mirror and roof rails along with some changes for tailgate also.

Performance-Based Tata Tiago JTP And Tigor JTP Launched In India

The JTP variant comes with revised front grille and new bumper at front. The headlamps come from Tigor with projectors and the fog lamp housing also gets a new design theme. The side design continues to be the same but the 15-inch alloy wheels are finished in a new design. The rear bumper is completely new with faux diffuser and dual exhaust pipe round of the exterior changes.

The Tiago measures 3746 mm in length, 1647 mm in width, 1535 mm in height, 170 mm is ground clearance and wheelbase is 2,400 mm. The NRG variant is bigger than the regular model as length increased by 47 mm length, width by 18 mm, height by 52 mm and ground clearance increased by 10 mm. The JTP model continues the same length, width and height as the regular model but the ground clearance reduced by 4 mm.

Tata Tiago, NRG and JTP: Interior and Features

The interior is similar on all three models but the company has given dual tone colour for the regular model while the NRG and JTP come with a black finish. The NRG variant gets denim inspired fabric upholstery with orange stitching and orange highlights on the centre console and door pad to refresh the interior.

The JTP model comes with a leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitches, aluminium pedals, red double stitching on seats and gear shift lever. To make the interior more special, the company has given JTP branding also. The features are similar on all three models and the only difference is the 5-inch touch screen unit, which is not yet available on the regular model.

Engine

The standard and NRG variants are powered by same 1.2 L Revotron engine producing 84 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. The 1.05 L Revotorq engine puts out a maximum power of 69 bhp at 4,000 rpm and max torque of 140 Nm at 1,800 rpm. Both these engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and AMT transmission is available only with a petrol engine, but the company is currently not yet offering an automatic option with NRG.

The Tiago JTP variant is powered by 1.2 L turbocharged petrol engine producing 114 PS of power at 5,500 rpm and 150 Nm of torque at 2,000-4,000 rpm. This engine is mated to 5-speed manual gearbox and like NRG, automatic is not offered. All models come with different drive modes like City and Sport.

Tata Tiago, Tiago NRG and Tiago JTP: Price

The standard Tiago price starts at Rs. 3.39 lakh for the entry-level model and top end variant at Rs. 6.04 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi). The NRG is available in a single variant as the petrol model is priced at Rs. 5.49 lakh and Rs. 6.31 lakh for diesel (both prices, Ex-Showroom Delhi). The Tiago JTP model priced at Rs. 6.39 Lakh and it doesn’t have any direct rival at this price point.
