The Tiago is the model which changed fortunes for Indian manufacturer in passenger vehicle segment recently since launching in 2016
Tata Tiago posted its highest ever monthly sales in June 2018 as the company sold 8327 units compared to 5438 units same month last year. The Tiago was the model which changed fortunes for Indian manufacturer in passenger vehicle segment as the company was witnessing negative growth on the back of outdated models.
The Tiago was launched in 2016 and since then the sales figure was consistent for each month. The company launched Tigor last year in India, which is the sedan version of hatchback and the combined production of both these models crossed 2,00,000 last month, which is a significant milestone for the company.
The styling of Tiago was completely new and appeal to young customers. But the biggest change was for interior and quality, which has improved significantly over previous models. The Tiago was loaded with lots of features along with spacious interior, efficient engines and aggressive pricing helped the model to become a huge success for the company.
Tata Tiago is powered by both petrol and diesel engine. The 1.2 L Revotron engine produces 85 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm of torque at 3,500. The 1.05 L Revotorq puts out 70 PS of power at 4,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque at 1,800 – 3,000 rpm. These engines are mated to 5 speed manual gearbox and AMT is available only with petrol engine.
Tata Motors has also introduced an EV variant of Tiago but it is manufactured only for Indian government officials. We are expecting the company to introduce Tiago EV soon in passenger market. The impressive performance of Tiago, Tigor, Hexa and Nexon has helped the company to beat Mahindra to become third largest carmaker in India.
The Indian manufacturer sold 18,312 units in June with a growth of 63 percent. The recent launches like Nexon AMT has helped the company to maintain the lead over competitors and in coming months the company is expecting sales momentum to continue. Tata Motors will launch performance variants of Tiago and Tigor in India later this year.
