The 1.2 L turbocharged petrol engine sourced from Nexon is expected to produce more power in Tiago JTP performance hatchback

The passenger vehicle business of Tata Motors is back on track and the company is looking to expand the portfolio by entering niche segments to cater to different customers. The company showcased Tiago JTP performance model at the Auto Expo and confirmed that the production model will be launched later this year.

The Tiago JTP production model has been already spotted in public roads. The performance hatchback will be powered by a 1.2 L turbocharged engine from Nexon. According to new reports, this engine will produce more power than current output of 108 hp of power and 170 Nm of torque on the Nexon.

The Baleno RS is the nearest competitor of Tiago JTP and it is powered by 1.0 L Boosterjet engine producing 100 hp of power and 150 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to 5-speed manual gearbox and kerb weight of both models is almost the same. But the powerful engine on Tiago JTP will help it offer more performance than Baleno RS.

Tata Motors is expected to make some changes to the suspension as the JTP model will be tuned for handling and it will sit closer to the ground, which will further improve the dynamics of the hatchback. The exterior design of the JTP model is not different from the regular version except for new body kit along with a rear spoiler and new exhaust.

The tyres are also wider and a new design for the alloy wheels. The interior will be finished in black colour with red accents on AC vents to make it sporty. The JTP model also comes with aluminium pedals and new 5-inch touch screen infotainment sourced from Harman with Android Auto connectivity.

Tata Motors will only offer 6-speed manual transmission with JTP model as it is targeted towards enthusiasts. The company is expected to price the performance model at a small premium but it will significantly undercut the Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS and Volkswagen Polo GT.
