The Tata Tiago JTP will share its engine with the Tata Nexon and is likely to cost under 7 lakh, thereby being a lot cheaper than the Maruti Baleno RS and Volkswagen Polo GT TSI

We’ve got to know that the Tata Tiago JTP, which is the upcoming performance variant of the entry-level hatchback, will be launched very soon. The new model will rival the Maruti Baleno RS and the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI but will cost a lot lesser.

It’s being reported that the authorized Tata dealerships have been asked to place orders for the demo cars, which means the company could launch the new model ahead of Diwali this year. The Tata Tiago JTP has been developed by Tata Motors and Coimbatore-based Jayem Auto. It will look sportier than the regular version.

It is expected to get sportier front and rear bumpers, which will likely feature integrated diffusers. In the side profile, it will have sporty skirts and large diameter alloy wheels shod with wider rubber. The rear-end will feature a roof-mounted spoiler.

Other than this, the car is expected to feature JTP badges pronounce its sporty characteristics. The car would also feature smoked headlamps, air vents on the hood, and twin exhausts. On the inside, it will get an all-black interior with contrast red stitching on the seat. The dashboard will carry a 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, sporty aluminium pedals, and a small diameter 3-spoke steering wheel.

Like we said, powering the Tata Tiago JTP will be the same petrol engine that powers the Tata Nexon SUV. Displacing 1.2-litres, this three-cylinder engine is aided by a turbocharger to produce a maximum power of 110 PS and a peak torque of 150 Nm.

For the Tiago JTP, the engine is likely to come mated to a performance-tuned 5-speed manual transmission. The hot hatch version of the Tiago will also feature a sports suspension and lowered ride height. All this should make the Tata Tiago JTP a worthy rival to both Volkswagen GT TSI and Maruti Baleno RS.
