Tata Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP will have mechanical updates for sportier handling; powered by turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine
Following the market debut of the Tiago NRG cross hatch on August 12, Tata introduced the facelifted version of the Tigor in the domestic market around two months later. The homegrown automaker is not settling down either as it wants to make the most out of the festive season furore by launching two more vehicles this month.
The long sought after Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP are making their official entry on October 23. Ever since the curtains were taken off at 2018 Auto Expo, Tata had been anticipated to bring up the performance duo that are developed alongside Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives under a 50:50 joint venture company known as JT Special Vehicles.
Paying homage to the legendary circuit they were developed at, Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore, the Tiago JTP may well become the most affordable hot hatchback in the country going by the looks of things. It has also been confirmed that the exterior and interior styling of the prototypes displayed at the premiere Indian motoring exhibition will make it to production.
Both the JTP (Jayem Tata Performance) models adorn smoked projector headlamps, sportier bumper up front and rear, bigger air dam, red highlights, aggressive grille design, bold side skirts, 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels and a twin exhaust system. Stepping inside the cabin, you could also notice red accented air cons, aluminium pedals, leatherette seats, contrast red stitches and so on.
The Pune-based manufacturer has made changes to the suspension with firmer springs and brought down the ride height to improve handling characteristics. The Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP are powered by 1.2-litre Revotron turbocharged petrol engine good enough to produce a maximum power in excess of 110 horsepower. It will only be connected to a five-speed manual transmission.
Expect the Tiago JTP to be priced competitively at around Rs. 6 lakh and the Tigor JTP at around Rs. 7.5 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom). The hot hatch will go up against Maruti Baleno RS and VW Polo GT that are priced substantially higher in the premium hatchback space. It will also get a rival in the form of Maruti Suzuki Swift RS soon.
