Tata Motors launched its latest compact hatchback Tiago on 6th April this year, which has become immensely popular immediately after the launch. The compact hatchback has been designed following the Indian origin automaker’s IMPACT design language. With two months over after the launch of the car, the model is seeing a steep rise in demand.
The Tata Tiago has already garnered more than 20,000 bookings within two months after the launch. Nearly 70% to 80% of the bookings are for the petrol variant model. In recent times, Indians have been facing an anti-diesel vibe around the places like Delhi, NCR and Kerala. Moreover, diesel cars cost more than petrol models. All these reasons are believed to have contributed in the rising demand of Tata Tiago petrol model.
The petrol variant is powered by 1.2 litre three cylinder Revotron petrol engine under the hood. The engine is paired with a 5 speed manual transmission and it churns out 83.8 bhp of peak power and 114 Nm of peak torque. Price starts for the petrol variant Tiago at Rs. 3.20 lakh. To meet the rising demand of the Tiago, Tata Motors has started new shift at its Sanand manufacturing plant in Gujarat.
Apart from the petrol engine, there is a fuel efficient diesel engine as well, which gets power from a 1.0 litre three cylinder Revotorq diesel engine paired with a 5 speed manual gearbox kicking out 69 bhp of peak power and 140 Nm of peak torque. The diesel variant is priced at Rs. 3.94 lakh.
The automaker is expected to hike the price of the Tiago soon. The petrol variant of the Tiago delivers 23.84 kmpl of fuel efficiency and the diesel variant offers 27.28 kmpl. Both the petrol and diesel variants are available in 8 different trims. The pricing ranges between Rs. 3.20 lakh to Rs. 5.54 lakh (ex showroom, Delhi).
The compact hatchback is the most competitive segment in Indian automobile market. The Tata Tiago takes on rivals like Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Hyundai Grand i10 and the likes in the segment. Both the Celerio and the Grand i10 are also pretty popular model across the country.
