The Tiago is the best selling model of Tata Motors and the hatchback accounts for more than 43 percent of the total volume of the company
Tata Motors is one of the fastest growing manufacturers in the passenger vehicle segment. Earlier the company was struggling to post good sales and it all changed with the introduction of Tiago as it is the model, which helped the company to turn around and the Tigao has managed to change the perception of customers towards Tata Motors.
The company has taken several steps to ensure that the hatchback won’t follow the footsteps of Indica as Tiago was not offered in the Taxi segment as it was available only for personal car buyers. The design theme of Tiago was completely new and the company has improved reliability considerably over earlier models.
The Tiago was introduced in February 2016 and in the first year, the company sold 41,937 units and the hatchback accounted for 32 per cent of Tata’s total volume. Last year, the volumes increased to 71,111 units and the contribution of Tiago increased to 42 per cent of total volume, which is impressive.
In 2018, the company has already sold more units than last year and the average monthly sales have also increased to 8K units. Even after three years of launch, the hatchback is still posting good growth and it is expected to continue in coming months as they introduced a new NRG variant to improve sales.
Tata Motors has also launched a sedan model based on the Tiago, but it has not found similar success as its hatchback sibling but the recent update for Tigor is expected to increase sales especially during the festival season. We can expect the company to introduce a mild update for Tiago soon.
The Tiago facelift might come with some new features like touchscreen infotainment system to lure more buyers. The hatchback is powered by a 1.2 L petrol engine with 84 bhp and 114 Nm, the 1.05 L diesel engine puts out 69 bhp and 140 Nm. Both these engines are mated to a 5-speed manual and AMT transmission.
