Tata Punch Enters Top 10 Sales Charts In Its Very First Year In 2022

Tata Punch posted 1,29,895 unit sales in the calendar year 2022 and it was the tenth most sold passenger car in India

Tata Motors launched the Punch micro SUV in late 2021 and since its debut, it has been well received amongst customers. The five-seater is currently priced between Rs. 5.99 lakh and Rs. 9.53 lakh (ex-showroom) and is sold in Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative variants. The Punch posted a domestic tally of 1,29,895 unit sales in the calendar year 2022.

The sub-4m SUV finished as the tenth most sold passenger car in the country and the fourth highest sold SUV. The Punch is one of the safest cars money can buy in the volume space with a GNCAP safety rating of five-seater. It is underpinned by the ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) platform and has a ground clearance of 187 mm with a bootspace capacity of 366 litres.

The Tata Punch has an approach angle of 20.3 degrees, a departure angle of 37.6 degrees and a ramp-over angle of 22.2 degrees. It has contributed to a major chunk of volume for the Mumbai-based manufacturer over the last year along with the Nexon. It is powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine found in the Tiago, Tigor and Altroz.

The powertrain develops a maximum power output of 86 hp and 113 Nm of peak torque. It is paired with a five-speed manual transmission or a five-speed AMT. It is equipped with n idle start/stop technology with Traction Pro mode in the AMT trim to help tackle mild off-road conditions. The Punch does not have any direct rivals in India yet.

The micro SUV segment will see the arrival of a competitor from Hyundai later this year. The Punch will have its range expanded in the form of an electrified variant, which will make its global debut in a near-production form at the 2023 Auto Expo next week. It will be based on the Sigma platform and will have several commonalities with the Nexon EV.

The existing Punch ICE is packed with features including projector headlights, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, a seven-inch TFT instrument console, a cooled glovebox, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, LED Daytime Running Lights, Brake Sway Control, Electronic Stability Control, reverse parking camera, engine start/stop button, 90-degree opening doors and so on.
