Tata Nexon is arguably the stylish sub-four metre SUV around and comes with packed features amidst undercutting its rivals

The subcompact SUV segment is the most hotly contested courtesy of new competitors as Tata Nexon and Honda WR-V entered the fray in 2017 to rival the established Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport. The arrival of Nexon was long anticipated since its concept version debuted at the 2014 Auto Expo and Tata did not disappoint by creating the production model almost similar to the concept.

Adhering to Tata’s latest Impact design philosophy, the Nexon has been priced aggressively in a similar fashion to other cars from the Mumbai-headquartered brand. With more recognition, the Nexon has swiftly become the second bestselling car within Tata’s range and contributed to more than 28 percent of total sales in December 2017.

The Nexon has a quirky yet appealing styling and with strong build quality, it has performance to back up its sales credentials. The powertrain lineup features a new diesel engine and a petrol mill. The 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel motor producing 110 PS at 3,750 rpm of power and 260 Nm of torque at 1,500-2,750 rpm is mated with a six-speed manual transmission.

Tata is expected to add an AMT gearbox to the range in the early parts of this year to add more spice to the offering level.

Priced between Rs. 5.85 lakh and Rs. 9.45 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Nexon undercuts most of its competitors by more than a lakh with loaded features. It gets dual front airbags and ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution) standard across the range.
