Tata Nexon becomes the first Indian car to get the full 5-Star rating and the company has begun production of the 5-star rated model from December 7

Tata Nexon created history earlier this week by scoring 5-star ratings in latest Global NCAP tests as the Nexon became the first Indian car to get the full 5-star rating. Tata Motors has officially started production of Global NCAP 5-Star rated Nexon in India from December, 7 onwards.

The compact SUV has already scored four-star ratings in the earlier test but the company has made some improvements like seat-belt reminder for both driver and co-passenger along with four-channel ABS system as standard. The Nexon also passed the side-impact test as it meets the UN95 side-impact protection requirements also.

Tata Motors hasn’t made any changes for the structure of Nexon and in the last test also, Global NCAP rate it as stable. The Nexon scored 16.06 points out of 17 for adult occupant protection, which is highest ever for an Indian-made car but the child occupant rating is still the same as the Nexon got just three-stars only.

The Nexon is based on X1 platform, which is not all new as it was developed for the second-generation Indica which is Indica Vista for our market and the company was planning to sell Indica in Europe so they need to pass the EURO NCAP test. The platform was made from stronger which helped the Nexon in Global NCAP crash test.

The Nexon offers dual airbags along with ABS and EBD as standard while the ISOFIX points come only in the top-end variants. We can expect the company to work on the child protection and hopefully in the future, the Nexon will improve its score. The upcoming Harrier is also expected to follow the footsteps of Nexon as it comes loaded with lots of safety features.

The Harrier is based on a new platform, which is derived from D8 platform of Discovery Sport and it is a good base to work on, so we could see the Harrier to become the second model from Tata Motors to get a full five-star crash rating. Tata Motors is expected to introduce a hybrid-variant of Nexon sometime in future along with a performance version also.
