Tata Motors to replace Sumo and Movus as preparations are underway for brand new models

India has witnessed many new SUVs being launched in the recent past. Many car manufactures are now focusing on introducing their respective SUV models in the country. One of whom is manufacturer is Tata Motors as part of its new aggressive strategy.

It seems that the homegrown car maker is working on two new SUVs that has been codenamed Q501 and Q502. It is said that these twin models will be replacing the Tata Sumo Grande and the Tata Movus in the country. The two new SUVs will be positioned above the upcoming Tata Hexa and is expected to have a 5-seater and 7-seater seating configurations.

The twin SUVs are expected to be ready by next year and will hit the Indian shores by 2018. The Q501 and Q502 might also share some of the exterior elements and platform with that of the Land Rover Discovery Sport. However, the upcoming premium SUVs will look completely different in appeal and appearance.

To keep a check on its competitors in the county, the car manufacturer will price the SUVs competitively. Tata Motors will also not equip the SUVs with JLR’s Ingenium engines, but will offer a 2.0-litre diesel engine, which will be sourced from Fiat.

The 2.0-litre, Multijet diesel unit will generate around 170 PS of maximum power and will come mated to a 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox. The powertrain will send its power to two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive systems. As the upcoming SUV will be placed in the premium segment, the duo SUVs will come loaded with features.

It will come equipped with many safety features like ABS, airbags along with driver assistance systems, advanced connectivity features and refreshed interiors. When launched the duo SUV by Tata Motors will lock horns with the likes of Mahindra XUV500 and Toyota Fortuner in the country.
