Tata Motors receives order for more than 5,000 buses; the orders come from 25 State / City Transport Undertakings across India

Tata Motors has received order for more than 5,000 buses from 25 State / City Transport Undertakings across India. It represents an 80% growth in the order book position compared to the last year, and such a large number of buy from the State Transport and City Transport authorities come after four years of gap. It also suggests, the public transport authorities are giving importance to the mass transportation mediums.

The new orders came with demand for some new technology and connectivity as well. The STUs and City Transport authorities has placed orders with focus on new technology, safety comfort features and connected IT enabled buses. India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer Tata Motors confirms, they will provide the best fitting models which come with better commuter safety and connectivity.

The new demands in the orders from STU and City Transport authorities include GPS enabled onboard Intelligent Transport System (ITS), public information systems through electronic destination boards, CCTV cameras, onboard WiFi, smart multi mode ticketing, onboard diagnostics systems; which will ensure better tracking for the vehicles and provide the passengers a new commuting experience.

Passenger safety and comfort has become much more prioritized than before, and the STUs and City Transport authorities have asked for better passenger comfort and safety features which include air conditioning, heating (HVAC), air suspension systems, lower NVH level (Noise, Vibration, Harshness), automatic transmission systems, adoption of bus body code practices during body fabrication, wider passage ways for free movement inside the bus, wider window panes for better visibility, and also wider and lower entry and exit doors or convenience of passengers.

More than 1,500 buses will be built with these features at Tata Motors JV manufacturing facility at Tata Marcopolo (Dharwad and Lucknow) and ACGL Goa. The auto manufacturer informs that, all these orders will be executed in the financial year 2016-2017.
