Tata Motors Aims to Become Third Largest Carmaker in India by 2019

Tata Motors has announced a combined investment of Rs. 4,000 crore in passenger and commercial vehicles business

Tata Motors aims to become the third largest car manufacturer in India by 2019. To achieve that target, it will invest Rs. 2,500 crore for the development of passenger cars. Also, the company aims to be third biggest commercial vehicle manufacturer in the world. Currently positioned as the 5th largest CV maker in the world, it will invest Rs. 1,500 crore for CV business.

In terms of passenger car sales, Tata Motors is currently the 5th largest brand in the Indian market. With the huge amount of investment the auto major wants to boost its PV business and come up to third position right after Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. The company is planning to launch an array of models that include the Nexon compact SUV, a premium hatchback codenamed as X451, Racemo sportscar under the Tamo sub-brand.

Apart from that, there could be a sedan based on the X451 hatchback. Tata is also working on the Q501 SUV that will be the flagship model from the brand upon arrival. In order to lure more customers towards it, Tata is improving the quality, design of its cars. The homegrown auto major is taking help from its British subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover to introduce more advanced design language and high-end features.

Speaking about the commercial vehicle market, Tata is the biggest brand in domestic market, but globally it is positioned at fifth position, which the brand aims to improve to third slot. It plans to launch several new products in the CV segment that will include medium and heavy vehicles, light commercial vehicles and small commercial vehicles as well. As we reported just a few days ago, Tata is thinking about an adventure oriented premium pickup truck that will be based on the Hexa.

Apart from launching new products and new variants, the company is also planning to upgrade the performance and quality of its products in the CV market focusing on the overseas markets. Also, it is aiming to expand its export business to more new markets as well.
