Tata Kite 5 Aktiv could come as an accessorised version of the standard subcompact sedan
A speculative rendering appeared on Twitter gave the forthcoming Tata Kite 5 sub-four metre sedan, an Aktiv-like look. With rumours running around the launch of the Tiago Aktiv, the fully-accessorised cousin of the standard hatchback, the crossover treatment on the Kite 5 sedan by artist Dhananjayan Kausshik has come as a very thoughtful assessment.
It could create a new segment all on its own, just like the recently launched Volvo S60 Cross Country did in the luxury space with its sedan-resembling looks and capabilities of an SUV with raised suspension. The production version of Tata Kite 5 subcompact sedan was revealed at the Auto Expo 2016 in early February and it will go up against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, the upcoming Volkswagen Ameo, Ford Figo Aspire and Hyundai Xcent.
It could be offered with a huge list of accessories as well and the launch is more likely happen during the festival season. Expected to carry a price range between Rs. 4.75 lakh and Rs. 8 lakh, the Tata Kite 5 sub-four metre sedan is based on the same platform as the Tiago hatchback.
It will boast identical mechanicals with ample amount of component sharing to keep the production costs down. The successor to the Indigo eCS will be positioned beneath the Tata Zest sedan. Inside the cabin, the sedan will get a Harman-developed entertainment system with five-inch screen and eight-speaker audio, multi-functional three-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls, navigation, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, piano-black centre console, etc.
As with any sub-4m sedan, it will have short overhangs, stubby rear-end and a honeycomb grille up front and class-leading 420 litres of boot capacity. It looks well-proportioned if the spy pictures are anything to go by and will be manufactured at Tata’s base in Sanand, Gujarat.
It will measure about 3,995 mm in length, 1,647 mm in width and 1,535 mm in height. The Kite 5 sedan will derive power from the new three-cylinder engines. The 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, REVOTRON, MPFI petrol engine generates 85 PS at 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm of peak torque at 3,500 rpm and comes linked with a five-speed manual transmission.
