Tata Harrier will be offered in five different shades when it goes on sale next month in India

Pratap Bose, Design Head at Tata Motors, took to Twitter to greet his followers on the eve of holiday season with a stunning picture of the Harrier. On behalf of 200 employees from his division, the picture of the Harrier he posted was in Orcus White colour driving through snow with trees covered in snow at the background – bringing a perfect holiday vibe.

The digitally rendered Harrier was bolted on bigger and bolder tyres with larger footprint than the normal 17-inchers to maneuver through the snow. The standard Tata Harrier, which will go on sale on January 23, is powered by a 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine producing 140 PS and 350 Nm, and is connected to a six-speed manual transmission.

A six-speed Hyundai-sourced torque converter AT will be included in the lineup in the near future. Tata offers Terrain Response Controller with multiple drive modes as in Land Rover models. The premium SUV is all set to make a big impact in the segment and its pricing will hold the keys to success. Expected to be on-road priced around Rs. 16-21 lakh, the Harrier has the Mahindra XUV500 as its closest rival in terms of pricing.

However, it will also take on the highly popular Hyundai Creta that sells well over 12,000 units on average per month and Jeep Compass. The latter’s sales have started to be on the downward curve in recent months and the arrival of Harrier could act as a big hammer blow. Although grabbing several influences, the Harrier’s exterior is nothing like what we have seen before as it kick starts the Impact Design 2.0 philosophy for the brand.

Tata has lined up a premium hatchback as well for next year based on the same styling direction. The Harrier will spawn a seven-seat SUV with perhaps more capable off-roading characteristics and a new name. It will sit way above the smaller sibling in the range in a higher price bracket and is believed to be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo.

The Indian brand will sell the Harrier in five different colour options namely Calisto Copper, Ariel Silver, Orcus White, Telesto Grey, and Thermisto Gold. Some of the highlighting features in the Harrier are rear AC vents, 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, steering mounted controls, electric seats with memory function, parking sensors and reverse camera, JBL Speakers, puddle lamps and so on.
