Jeep Compass is the best-selling vehicle from the FCA stable in India right now, soon, it will get challenged by the all-new and more affordable Tata Harrier
Jeep Compass came as a lifeline for the American brand in India. Fiat Chryslar Group introduced the all-new SUV in the market and it has become the best-selling product of the whole group in the market. Soon, it will face challenges from the Tata Harrier, which will be much more affordable in price. Here is how both the vehicles look like on the paper.
Tata Harrier Vs Jeep Compass Exterior:
Tata has gone full throttle when it comes to the design department with their new vehicles. Starting from the Tata Tiago, all the vehicles that followed offered top-class design, thanks to the new Impact design philosophy of the brand. The all-new Tata Harrier is based on the Tata H5X concept that was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo earlier this year.
The production version of the Harrier is quite similar to the concept version and has an authoritative design. It gets uniquely place headlamp cluster in the bumper while the position of the regular headlamps is taken by the bright LED DRLs. The Harrier gets 17-inch alloy wheels and uniquely design window line. At the rear, the Harrier gets a beautiful belt line with split tail lamps.
The Jeep Compass looks rather sophisticated when it comes to design. The SUV gets the iconic 7-slate family grille at the front with large headlamps. The DRLs are placed below in the bumper. The Compass gets a thick chrome strip that starts from the A-Pillar and goes on till the tail lamp of the vehicle. The Compass also gets split tail lamps in the rear and looks very rugged.
However, the Harrier is much larger in dimensions than the Compass and looks way more intimidating on the road when compared to the Compass. It has a much louder presence.
Tata Harrier Vs Jeep Compass Interiors:
Both the SUVs offer a range of features inside. However, the Harrier is much more spacious and offers quite a few cubby holes to keep all the things securely. Both Compass and the Harrier offer leather seats and an arrangement to seat 5 occupants. The Tata Harrier offers a premium wooden finish on the dashboard. It gets a dual-tone interior which looks very plush and luxurious when compared to the all-black interior theme of the Jeep Compass.
Tata Harrier Vs Jeep Compass Features:
The Jeep Compass offers a range of features including a 7-inch UConnect infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also offers dual-zone automatic climate control system, sunroof, leather-wrapped steering wheel and a customisable 3.5-inch information display in the instrument console.
The Compass is also quite safe when it comes to the features. It gets Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Dynamic Steering Torque, Hill Start Assist, Adaptive brake lights, panic brake assist and 6 airbags.
The Harrier gets a floating type 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, which is biggest in the segment. It plays through 9-speaker system from JBL. The Harrier comes with a cooled box placed under the armrest, cruise control and a 7-inch coloured screen on the instrument console. The all-new Harrier also gets 6-airbags, Electronic Stability System, ABS, EBD, traction console, off-roading ABS, hill hold, hill descent control, hydraulic brake assist among a host of other features.
Being SUVs, it should be noted that the Tata Harrier does not offer AWD option but the Jeep Compass does. However, the Harrier offers Terrain Response System which modulates the power to the front wheel and helps the SUV to reach challenging places. The Jeep Compass gets five driving modes while the Harrier gets three. However, the Harrier gets engine modes, which changes the power output.
Tata Harrier Vs Jeep Compass engine:
The Tata Harrier will only offer a diesel engine, which has been supplied by Fiat Chrysler. This is the same engine that also powers the diesel variants of the Jeep Compass. The 2.0-litre diesel engine in the Tata Harrier produces a maximum power of 140 PS and a peak torque of 350 Nm. There is also no automatic transmission available with the Harrier at the moment but it may be added at a later stage.
The Jeep Compass is powered by both petrol and diesel engine options. There is a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates a maximum of 160 PS and 250 Nm. It gets 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox as an option. The 2.0-litre diesel engine produces a maximum of 173 PS and 230 Nm of torque. It gets only a 6-speed manual transmission.
Tata Harrier advantages over the Jeep Compass?
The Tata Harrier offers City mode, Eco mode and Sport mode which changes the power output significantly. It is extremely useful while driving through different conditions to save the maximum amount of fuel. The Harrier also offers a bigger infotainment screen, coloured 7-inch console, and the 9-speaker system with sub-woofer from JBL. It is also much more spacious than the Jeep Compass, which puts it at a major advantage.
