Tata Harrier Records 2,075 Unit Sales In April 2019; Beats Most Of Its Rivals

Tata Harrier has received tremendous response among customers and is expected to continue its sales momentum in the coming months

The first quarter of 2019 calendar year saw quite a number of important SUVs getting launched in India and due to the segment’s popularity, their sales figures are going strong despite the overall downward trend encountered in the auto industry due to various social and economic reasons. Tata Motors officially entered the Harrier in showrooms on January 23, 2019 and its first four months have been nothing short of impressive.

The Harrier is the first model based on Impact Design 2.0 philosophy and the first to sit on OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced) architecture derived from Land Rover’s supple D8 that underpinned over a million SUVs globally. In April 2019, Tata retailed 2,075 units of the Harrier and it takes the cumulative tally to 6,438 units so far.

The Harrier did manage to beat Jeep Compass in February and March and it has done the same in April by more than 800 units. It did comfortably outsell Nissan Kicks and Hyundai Tucson as 300 and 111 units were dispatched respectively. As Mahindra XUV500 endured 50 per cent de-growth last month with 1,508 units, the Harrier did get the better of it as well.

The more prominent rival for some of the aforementioned seven-seater SUVs from Tata will come in the form of stretched Harrier, which made its world debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show as Buzzard. It is expected to carry Cassini moniker when it goes on sale later this year in the domestic market and will follow the launch of the Altroz hatchback.

The seven-seater Harrier will use a more powerful version of the 2.0-litre Kryotec four-cylinder diesel engine producing 170 PS and 350 Nm. It could be mated to a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic sourced from Hyundai, and expect a 4×4 system to be in the pipeline in the near future.

The Tata Cassini will share identical design cues with the Harrier and the top-end variants may get slightly more features in comparison. The price range could start around Rs. 16.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
