Leading Global Automaker Selects Tata Elxsi’s Autonomous Driving Tech ‘Autonomai’

Tata Elxsi’s ‘Autonomai’ software employs various sensors, cameras, radars and lidars; provides comprehensive and modular solution to built self-driving cars

Autonomous driving technology is one of the major sectors on which almost every automaker around the world are currently working. While some auto manufacturers are developing the self driving technology indigenously, some are collaborating with other brands. Some companies are taking help from tech firms as well. Meanwhile one of the major automakers positioned in the top 5 global brands has chosen Tata Elxsi’s autonomous driving technology for its future self-driving cars.

It is still not clear which automaker has decided to use the Tata Elxsi built Autonomai software in its cars, but we assume it could be Volkswagen. Tata Motors and Volkswagen AG have signed a partnership deal under which they will share technologies, platform etc. Volkswagen’s dream to manufacturer self driving cars is well known. Hence it could be the German auto major that has shown interest in Autonomai.

As Tata Elxsi says, the Autonomai is an advanced autonomous vehicle software that will provide the car manufacturers and tier-1 automotive suppliers a modular solution to built and test self driving cars. This technology employs an array of sensors, cameras, radar and lidar along with an artificial intelligence system as well.

When it comes to develop the self driving automotive technology, the American EV maker Tesla and Swedish luxury vehicle manufacturer Volvo have made significant progress. Several other brands like Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW etc are also working on the technology. With the Autonomai self-driving software Tata Motors too make progress in the sector.

Meanwhile, speaking about Tata and Volkswagen’s partnership their joint products will start rolling out from 2019. In Indian market, Skoda will carry out the role on behalf of Volkswagen AG. Tata Motors is expected to benefit from Volkswagen’s famous MQB platform and various other automotive technologies as well. On the other hand, Volkswagen aims to become an affordable premium car brand in India with help of Tata.
