Tata Altroz will compete against Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20; India launch expected in the second half of 2019

Tata Motors’ next big launch this year will be the 45X concept based production premium hatchback rivalling against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo and it will likely to be badged as Tata Altroz. It holds plenty of significance for the brand considering its volume potential in the hotly contested segment.

The homegrown auto major will be using the 89th Geneva International Motor Show as a launch pad for showcasing its future products, just as it did for nearly the last two decades. Tata has confirmed on social media that the production-spec Altroz will debut at the Swiss motoring exhibition ahead of its market entry in India.

It won’t come alone though as an all-electric concept based on the Altroz, seven-seater version of the Harrier and Hornbill micro SUV concept are reportedly in the pipeline for global premiere. Tata will also display the regular Harrier as the five-seat premium SUV is important for the brand’s overseas sales aspiration.

Ever since Tata broke the covers off the 45X concept at the 2018 Auto Expo, the road-going model has eagerly been anticipated and it has been spotted running trials on Indian soil several times already. The Altroz is the second Tata vehicle adorning the Impact Design 2.0 philosophy that debuted in the Harrier.

Unlike any other Tata model on sale currently, the Tata Altroz sits on a brand new modular Alpha architecture and it will likely spawn a c-segment sedan in the coming years. The premium hatchback is expected to feature notable segment-first equipment to have a competitive advantage over its already established rivals.

Tata 45X Interior Leaked 1

It is believed to be powered by the 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron three-cylinder petrol engine with six-speed manual and six-speed AMT choices. Moreover, rumours suggest that a mild hybrid system will also be used as well. Going by Tata’s knack of pricing its products aggressively, expect the 45X to be priced between Rs. 5.5 lakh and Rs. 9 lakh (ex-showroom).
