Tata 45X Premium Hatchback Spied Again, Launch Expected In May

Tata 45X Premium hatchback is expected to come with a mild-hybrid system to improve efficiency and the launch will take place next year

Tata Motors is currently working on a new premium hatchback and the company previewed the model at the 2018 Auto Expo with 45X Concept. The test mule was spotted at Coimbatore in a petrol pump and it is heavily camouflaged to hide the exterior design details but we could make out the overall body design.

Tata 45X Premium hatchback design is based on Impact Design 2.0 philosophy and it will debut with new Harrier, which is going to be introduced early next year. The front gets swept back headlamps with a small grille in which the Tata logo is placed in the middle. The design of bumper is completely new.

The wheels appear to be either 15 or 16-inch size and the mirror is placed on the door instead of A-pillar. The side profile reveals the curvy shape of the roofline and the thick shoulder line starts from headlamps and goes all the way to tail lamps. The 45X gets wraparound LED tail lamps. The design of boot took some inspirations from Tiago hatchback.

The upcoming hatchback Is based on the new Alpha platform and this modular platform will also spawn a mid-size sedan also. The company hasn’t given details about the interior but we can expect some inspirations to be taken from Nexon and the new Harrier as the quality of materials will definitely improve.

Tata Motors will pack the hatchback with lots of features to take on established rivals. The engine is expected to be shared with Tata Nexon and recent reports have indicated that the hatchback might get a mild-hybrid system to improve efficiency. The hatchback will come with a start/stop system.

The company will update the engines to make it BSVI complaint and the 1.2 L turbocharged petrol engine puts out 108 hp and 170 Nm. The 1.5 L diesel engine produces 108 hp and 260 Nm of torque.

Both these engines are mated to a 6-speed manual and the company is developing a dual clutch automatic gearbox also.
