If turns out to be the case, the Tata 45X JTP hot hatchback will compete against Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS and Volkswagen Polo GT TSI
The Tata 45X concept had its official debut at the 2018 Auto Expo and it garnered attention like no other courtesy of its futuristic looks that will be infused into the production version. With Tata staying true to using its concept influence on the road-going models, the upcoming premium hatchback will more likely become a luring prospect in its segment.
The spy shots do demonstrate the perception with a low slung profile and swooping front fascia with heavily raked windshield and sporty roofline alongside wide stance. It will rival Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo in the highly competitive premium hatchback segment.
It could carry the production nameplate Tata Aquilla and will be the second bigger launch next year following Harrier five-seat SUV. We expect it to enter India in the middle parts of 2019 and will be the first vehicle based on the modular Alpha architecture that underpins future Tata products stretching up to 4.3-metre length.
Adorning the Impact Design 2.0 styling philosophy, it is expected to have the same powertrain options as the Nexon. If it turns out to be the case, the 45X or Aquilla will become the most powerful hatchback in its segment as the 1.2-litre Revotron petrol and 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel in Nexon produce 110 PS respectively.
Transmission duties will likely be performed by a six-speed manual or a six-speed AMT as in the Nexon. Tata could go a step further and introduce JTP performance-based hotter variant of the regular 45X in the near future to make matters more attractive for customers.
Considering that the Nexon JTP is also said to be in the pipeline, and the JTP badged Tiago and Tigor are launching in the coming days, the 45X could be a no exception with upgraded mechanicals and sportier interior. If came into existence, the Tata 45X JTP will go up against Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS and Volkswagen Polo GT TSI.
