Tata Harrier

Here’s a rendering of the Tata Harrier in the Nexon’s Moroccan Blue colour shade. The Harrier is the production version of the H5X concept SUV. It will launch in the first half of 2019. The Harrier will become the most modern Tata SUV ever. It will be underpinned by a modified version of the Jaguar Land Rover’s L8 platform. Powering it will be an FCA-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine that will offer 140 bhp of maximum power.

The engine will come mated to a six-speed manual transmission as standard and a six-speed automatic as optional. The latter will be sourced from Hyundai. The Harrier won’t offer 4WD but Super Drive Modes will be standard across all the trims. Prices of the Harrier are likely to start at roughly Rs 12 lakh. It will go on to rival the likes of Jeep Compass and higher variants of the Hyundai Creta.

Tata Hornbill

The Tata Hornbill will be a smaller-than-Nexon crossover that will rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV100. It will be designed as per the company’s Impact Design 2.0 philosophy. The micro-SUV will have a Nexon-like bold stance and is likely to ride on 15- or 16-inch alloy wheels. The interior will get features like a touchscreen infotainment unit that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It will have enough space to seat four adults in reasonable comfort.

Underpinning the Hornbill will be the company’s ALPHA modular platform as it will be used for all upcoming Tata cars below 4.3-metre in length. The micro-SUV is likely to get the same petrol and diesel engines that power the Tiago. Both the engines will offer an optional AMT. The new model will be slotted between the Tigor compact sedan and the Nexon compact SUV in terms of price positioning.

Tata 45X

Another one of the upcoming Tata cars is a premium hatchback that will rival the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Hyundai Elite i20. it was showcased at the Auto Expo 2018 as the 45X concept. The production-spec hatchback will launch in the last quarter of next year. While the concept measures 4,235 mm in length, the production version is sure to be less than four-metres long in order to benefit from a lower excise duty. it will be powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines that power the Nexon.

Underpinning the premium hatchback from Tata Motors will be the company’s new Alpha platform. It may be noted here that the Jaguar Land Rover L8-based OMEGA architecture is being reserved for bigger vehicles like the Harrier. The production version of the premium hatchback will borrow plenty of design cues from the 45X concept but is likely to miss out on bits like LED headlamps and the big mag wheels.

Other than launching a 45X-based premium hatchback to rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the company will also launch a 45X-based mid-size sedan that will rival the likes of Honda City and Maruti Ciaz. The sedan will look a lot like its hatchback sibling but will have a classier design for the alloy wheels, a single-tone paint finish, and slightly bigger headlamps.

The 45X-based sedan will share the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines with the Nexon. The motors will be mated to six-speed manual transmission as standard and a six-speed automatic transmission as optional. Prices are likely to start around Rs 7.5 lakh. Like the other upcoming Tata cars we have here, the 45X-based sedan will launch bere the end of 2020.
