Suzuki Solio five-seater MPV could be showcased at upcoming 2018 Delhi Auto Expo; India launch not confirmed

Suzuki Solio has been spotted in India igniting a speculation that this could be a future car in our country wearing a Maruti Suzuki badge. The five-seater mini MPV has been spotted near Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar plant and it is expected to be displayed at the upcoming 2018 Delhi Auto Expo as part of the Indo-Japanese auto manufacturer’s hybrid technology display lineup.

Interestingly, this is not the first time we have seen Suzuki Solio in India as the auto major displayed the previous generation model at 2012 Delhi Auto Expo, but that was a seven-seater model. Now, the five-seater car has been spotted at a time, when we are expecting a Wagon-R based small MPV to be launched here.

Considering the fact that Maruti Suzuki is aiming to enhance its market share in the UV segment by bringing new and interesting products, the Solio could be an attractive car here. It comes with a boxy shape that grabs attention easily. In terms of design, it has similarities with the Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R, but the Solio looks more upmarket compared to the tallboy hatchback.

Up front, the Solio MPV gets shiny chrome finished front grille with horizontal slats and it is flanked by large swept back headlamps. A flat and bold looking front bumper is thee with large black air intake and neatly positioned fog lamps at both ends. Adding sportiness to the car is a front splitter like element.

At the side profile, Suzuki Solio gets stylish wheels, side skirts and conventional front passenger doors. Rear passenger doors come with siding style and there is a large black glass area with turn indicator integrated ORVMs. At the back, it gets vertically positioned taillights, a wide and thick shiny chrome bar. A roof spoiler adds sporty style to the MPV.

Japanese market-spec Suzuki Solio is powered by a 1.2-litre K12 petrol engine. There is a hybrid powertrain option as well that is capable of churning out 91 hp of peak power and 118 Nm of peak torque. If launched in India, transmission options for this car could include a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT as well.
